UK200Group, as champions of the growing business sector, believes it is time for small and medium sized enterprises to receive more recognition. They may not sound terribly exciting, as the Sunday Times said recently, compared to household name companies, but 4.3 million SMEs account for a combined turnover of £1,200 billion and for 58.5 per cent of the nation's workforce, the highest level in nine years.
Small businesses can do well anywhere in Britain, as the Sunday Times points out, but if the Government really wants to encourage the trend, we and our colleagues in the UK200Group feel more strongly than ever that it must take more decisive steps to cut red tape and excessive regulation. EU regulations now account for more than 50 per cent of the red tape engulfing UK business.
