….is a phrase that could apply to more than one article in this newsletter. It actually applies to the feature prompted by the Consumer Minister. This warns both businesses and consumers alike about the scams that have been catching people out recently. Make sure you read the tips inside so that you don’t get caught out. The phrase could equally apply to the new insolvency register, launched by the Insolvency Service. The register enables you to check details of individuals who are currently bankrupt or who have been in the last three months.
The dust is still settling on the contents of the Pre-Budget Report as we go to print. When the Chancellor made his speech last December it may have seemed a little light on ‘headlines’ However a number of initiatives were introduced and developments announced. For small businesses there was a discussion paper looking at the differences between the way small companies and the self-employed are taxed. In addition there will be consultation on a single tax return to bring together all small business taxes. Corporation tax reform is moving forward as are measures relating to childcare. Most immediately this April sees the introduction of a new tax exemption for employer-provided childcare and childcare vouchers.
